Welcome to the 2003
Song Writing Invitational Rules

As of November 2, submissions are closed.

Hosted by Guy Crundwell:

Any BSA member can spread the word and invite friends to act independently or as a group to submit two mp3s to crundwellg@ccsu.edu by August 15th, 2003. (If my mailbox gets filled up from late senders it your own damned fault for procrastinating! I will try to send reply emails to inform you if I got the tunes.)

One line-up can only submit two mp3s but there is no limit to the number of line-ups a single person can play in. (In mathematical terms, if all those who participate are considered to be 'the group', then any number of subgroups are allowed so long as no two subsets are identical.)

One of the two mp3 must be cover. (More specifically, the cover is a song that no member of the sub-group has written or performed prior to the competition.)

The original must not have been circulated prior to competition.

The prize for this year's competition was going to be a bottle of single malt scotch plus a novelty item; but now instead will be just the scotch. The winner(s) will have a choice (subject to availability)- 16 year Lagavulin or 15 year Aberlour. (If you don't drink scotch, then just put the f*cking bottle on your shelf and go buy some Fresca [good, zero cals, and grapefruit flavored!)

Other people are encouraged to submit (for posting) to the webmaster ideas and prizes for other categories in the competition... some ideas are... a prize for the best lyrics, a prize for best backing vocals, etc. It would be like a big communal party carried out over the web!

Initially, the panel was going to consist of three members of the group that would rank each submission on a score of 1 to 30 (for the original) and 1 to 20 (for the cover)... but it might also be cool to post all submissions on the BSA website and let people cast their votes straight-up... especially if some of you all step up and sponsor a prize category. Let me know if you're interested.
